Homemade “Perfect Playdough” Recipe – No Alum or Cream of TarTar

Hello everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful long weekend! This past weekend was a rainy one so I wanted to find something fun we could do inside. I searched online for a playdough recipe and all of the required Alum or Cream of TarTar as we call it in Australia and of course I didn’t have any. There was no way I was dragging Hunter out in that miserable weather all for a ton of powder I will most likely never use again. So I searched and searched and finally found a recipe without it, but the comments said it didn’t work all that well. I decided to wing it and alter the amount of ingredients and it turned out perfectly! Just like the bought stuff except without the nasties. Here is my “Perfect Playdough” recipe!

1 cup plain flour

1/4 cup salt

3 tsp lemon juice

2 tablespoons vegetable oil

1/2 cup water

Food colouring

Pop it all in a pot over medium heat and cook until it’s play dough consistency. If adding different colours, separate the dough and knead the colours in.
You could probably try 1 & 1/2 tablespoons of oil instead of 2 as it was a touch greasy but I prefer it like that as it doesn’t dry out as quickly. I also suggest dusting your bench with flour before kneading the colours into the dough. Oh and if you don’t want your hands looking like mine did, maybe put some gloves on!

Let me know how you go if you try this recipe out! I’d love to see pictures. Tag me on Instagram or Facebook, or feel free to send me a snap on Snapchat! All social media is listed below. Hope you all have a wonderful week!

Black Smokey Eye Tutorial

Hey guys!

So I figured instead of clogging up the description box of my videos with all of the products used etc, I’d post everything I used in individual blogs instead. That way its easy to find & come back to rather than having to go onto YouTube for a list of products. I’ve also included links of where I buy the products I use from, that way if you’re interested in a product, you won’t have to go searching for it.

If you haven’t seen the tutorial yet, you can check it out here!

Tantrum City – When the Terrible Two’s Come Early…

I want to start this blog off by saying of course I love & adore my son, even when he is throwing a tantrum of Godzilla proportions. Right, moving on….

My toddler has been throwing tantrums since he was about 10 months old, however they were only very occasional and mild. As he has gotten older, the tantrums have obviously increased, both in frequency & in volume, but still haven’t been too bad. Until today. Today I feel like I am living in tantrum city, where nothing is okay and everything is infuriating, except I don’t know what’s causing it or how to fix it & I really want to get back to Pleasantville ASAP. Hunter has decided that today anything and everything is infuriating & that nothing is good enough. His toys aren’t doing what he wants them to, the cat won’t let him punch it (actually the cat (and us) never let him punch it, but apparently today that isn’t acceptable to Hunter), he wants to drink out of a cup but not THAT cup, or that one, the one that I am placing in the dishwasher because it’s dirty, that’s the one he wants. He’s tired and wants to go to bed, but doesn’t want you to leave, then once you go back in there he doesn’t want you there.

Obviously I knew this day was coming, but I’m going to be honest here…

We’ve all been there right? In the days before we had kids, while we were leisurely strolling through the aisles of the shopping centre buying whatever we wanted (and not having to budget because we didn’t have to allow for nappies, wipes & the endless amount of bananas toddlers need) we’d come across a toddler throwing a ridiculous tantrum & would think “MY child will NEVER throw tantrums like that”. Well, I was right. My toddler doesn’t throw tantrums like the one I saw in Woolies, my child throws even bigger ones! Hard to believe right? Seeing as I was going to be the perfect parent with the perfectly behaved child. As per usual, life has given me a giant smack in the face of reality in the form of a toddler who has inherited my short temper, thanks a lot genes.

Kids are going to be kids. Toddlers are bound to throw tantrums. It’s the only way they can express such big feelings that they don’t quite understand yet. I totally get where they are coming from, when I’ve got PMS I throw tantrums that can easily rival my toddler’s. Last time I was PMS’ing I was so angry for no reason that I actually wanted to get away from myself. Side story – my husband was listening to a chick’s cover of Justin Bieber’s Love Yourself (while I had PMS), & this thought actually crossed my mind – I’m not even joking here, “I wonder if he’s messaging her, what if he’s cheating on me with her?!” Yep because my husband would TOTALLY cheat on me, NOT! & if he did it would definitely be with a famous Aussie musician. I’m a deadset idiot when hormones are coursing through me at peak levels.

This is all part of the joy of motherhood, some days are a lot (a fuck load) harder than others & some days are so wonderful & fun you wish you could relive them over and over.

So now I am left to try & work out what to do when my son throws a huge tantrum. What do you do? Do you walk away and ignore it? Do you do time outs? Cuddles or distraction? Leave a comment below or on my social media (links are down the bottom of the page) letting me know what works for you & your toddler.

As always, feel free to send me a message on Facebook if you’re having a tough day or even just for a chat 🙂 clearly I’m an open book haha

Have a lovely week! I’ll be back on Friday with another Easter DIY.

Easy Easter Crafts for Toddlers

Hello everyone! Long time no talk! Sorry I’ve been a little MIA lately, if you follow me on my social media, you’d know I’ve had a cold & my wisdom teeth pulled recently, hence why I’ve been absent. But, today I am back with some cute Easter crafts for your little ones. These were a lot of fun to make and turned out really cute. I’ll admit that the Carrots didn’t turn out as nicely as I’d hoped but that’s okay! Hunter doesn’t notice the difference so thats all that matters haha. These crafts are great for kids of any ages too, not just toddlers! Okay, lets get into it…

easterbunnycarrot Collage.jpg

Let’s start with the Footprint Easter Bunny:

easterbunnyfinal.jpg

For this craft you will need the following;

easterbunny 1.jpg

  • 2 pieces of white, grey, cream or brown cardstock card – we chose grey
  • Pink paint
  • Glitter (if you like, we decided not to use glitter in the end)
  • Glue
  • Paintbrush
  • Scissors
  • Black & Pink markers/textas
  • Optional extra – bowl

easterbunny2.jpg

Step 1: Paint your little one’s feet with pink paint and press them onto one of the pieces of cardstock, ensuring you allow a good amount of space around them as these will make the bunny’s ears.

easterbunny3.jpg

Step 2: While the footprints are drying, grab your 2nd piece of cardstock and draw on a large circle (I used a bowl as a guide). Then cut out and add the bunny’s facial features (see below), don’t forget the whiskers! You could also use stick on eyes instead of drawing them on if you’d prefer.

Step 3: Cut around the footprints into bunny ears and glue onto your bunny’s head. Set aside to dry & you’re done.

You could also write a little message on the back of the Easter Bunny’s head & use it as a cute card – this would be a great card to give your little one’s teacher if they are in school.

Let’s move onto the Footprint Carrots…

eastercarrotfinal.jpg

To make this craft you will need the following;

eastercarrot1.jpg

  • 1 piece of cream or white cardstock card
  • Orange & Green paint
  • Paintbrush
  • Scissors

eastercarrot2.jpg

Step 1: Paint your little love’s feet with the orange paint and press them onto the piece of card, making sure you leave a decent gap between them, allow to dry.

eastercarrot3.jpg

Step 2: Now you have 2 options here, you could use your child’s handprints for this (like we did) or you can just paint the tops of the carrots with a paintbrush. If you want to use your child’s hands, I suggest only painting their 4 fingers & not the thumb or palms of their hands as I believe that’s where we went wrong (live and learn right?!), then have them press their fingers onto the card, lining the bottom of their fingers up so they’re touching the toe prints. Allow to dry.

Step 3: Once dry, cut around the footprints to make a carrot shape & you’re done!

As I previously mentioned, ours didn’t turn out perfectly, but I still think they’re really cute!

Please let me know if you decide to make these! You can either tag me on Instagram or send me photos on Snapchat or Facebook, all of my social media is listed at the bottom of the page.

I hope you’re all having a wonderful weekend whatever you’re doing!
